JOHN M. LAWHORN -
practices primarily in the areas of personal injury, labor and employment, products liability, general civil litigation, appellate and mediation. Originally a native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Mr. Lawhorn obtained his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Carson Newman College in 1984 and entered the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he received his law degree, with honors, in 1987. Mr. Lawhorn joined the firm of Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP in 1990. Mr. Lawhorn was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1990, the Florida Bar in 1988 and the Alabama Bar in 1987. He has tried cases in state and federal courts throughout East Tennessee and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He has also represented clients in the Tennessee Court of Appeals, the Tennessee Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Lawhorn is also a Rule 31 Listed General Civil Mediator by the Tennessee Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution and on the Federal Court Mediation Panel for the Eastern District of Tennessee
In addition to his law practice, Mr. Lawhorn is active in the community,
formerly serving as Board Chair for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of East Tennessee,
and current General Counsel. Mr. Lawhorn serves the
Tennessee Chapter of The Nature Conservancy as a member of
its legal advisory council to develop and implement habitat
conservation planning in the Conservancy's Cumberland
Plateau Project.
Mr. Lawhorn is a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations, the Alabama State Bar, the Florida Bar and the Defense Research Institute.
